Yahoo Sells Delicious

Delicious users can heave a sigh of relief. The neglected Yahoo property has been sold off to YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen:

Today YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen announced they have acquired the Delicious technology from Yahoo!. They plan to continue the service that users have come to know and love and make the site even easier and more fun to save, share and discover the web’s “tastiest” content.

Providing a smooth transition for users is important to both companies. There will be a transition period where users can elect to sign up for a new account. Users’ public and private bookmarks will be maintained through the transition period and transferred as they are today when it is complete.

Yahoo previously had Delicious users worried when it was leaked that the site was in a list of 'sunset' products. Delicious' founder Joshua Schachter had previously left Yahoo in 2008, amidst a high-level exodus which included the then search division senior VP Brad Garlinghouse, Flickr founders Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake. Schachter has since said that "I wish I had not sold it to them. The cash and freedom do not even come close; I would rather work on a big, popular product."

How to Create an Event on Facebook

Facebook provides a great platform for making and building your events. From friends birthday parties to organized trips, you can organize and advertise any event using Facebook.

Create an Event

1. Log in to the Facebook home page.
2. Select "My Events" from the navigation menu. You will be taken to a page with all the events you are currently planning to attend.

3. Click on the "Create Event" button.

4. Fill in all the details about your event, including the time and place. You can always edit these later, but try to get as much detail in as you can initially.
5. Select the level of access to your event. If the event is open, anyone can see the details and add him or herself to the guest list. If the event is closed, only the time and description is shown to uninvited guests. Facebook users can request to be added to the guest list for complete event info. A secret event will not appear in search results and will only be viewable by those people you invite.

6. Click "Create Event" to complete your event details.

7. You can upload a photo related to the event. Use the browse feature to find a photo on your hard drive to upload.

8. Invite guests. Select your friends on Facebook and other users to attend your event. You can even send emails to people not on Facebook. After you invite people, you are done creating your event.

Facebook Promotion Tips for Business

If you want to promote your business, organization of event, here are five tips for using Facebook to get your message out:

1. Make a Group
Facebook is all about social networking. Groups offer a brilliant chance to hit into the social networks of your group's members. Groups are easy to create. They are simply Facebook pages where group members can interact with one another, post pictures and videos, and carry on discussions. Having a group page for your business can go a long way to creating a community of interest for your organization or brand. Groups are particularly useful for causes and non-profits with highly focused publics. Brands and businesses can also use Facebook groups.

2. Create a Page
Create a Page related to your businesses on Facebook. Increase your fans on the Facebook page. It costs nothing to have a page for your business. These pages are less interactive than those of a group. There are benefits to having a page instead of a group. Pages are focused on the brand, business or organization; whereas, with groups the focus is on group interaction. The two can work together to give you more coverage. To create a page, you must be legitimate representative of the brand.

3. Plan an Event
Another option for businesses wanting to use Facebook for marketing is to host an event. Events must be time bound. When you set up an event in Facebook you will need to include a start and stop date. If you are launching a new product or holding an event, don't miss a chance to use Facebook to get the word out about it. Each event invitation that you send requires an RSVP so if you want to control numbers for an event like a pre-sale open house. The events page also lets you send out waves of invitations so that you can add to your guest list at any time. You can invite your friends, fans and group members. From within Facebook events, you can send your invited guests additional information about the event to build the buzz and enthusiasm for it.

4. Go beyond Facebook
Use your other marketing communications tools to let you customers and potential customers know about your Facebook presence. Add a link to your Facebook page from your web site. Be sure to include a notice on your e-mail marketing about your Facebook pages. If you are one of the millions of Twitter users, be sure to use this vehicle in your Facebook marketing campaign. Tweet when you create your page thus announcing its presence to your Twitter followers.

5. Follow the of Social Marketing Rules
1. Community members are real, genuine people. If you are a fake with them, expect the community to out you.
2. You have to be polite to the community and respect the other members. This means you should avoid blitzing them with your marketing message.
3. To effectively market in social media, you have to be regularly providing importance to your readers. If you obey the rules, you will be rewarded by your fans.
